Retro Football Shirts

There are lots of different reasons why football fans like retro football shirts. One, there is the obvious one, where you want to relive and remind yourself of past triumphs of past footballing heroes. Two, they are often cheaper and so you can still follow your team by wearing their colours, but for a lot less money

Retro Football Shirts

You might be one of the lucky supporters whose team is doing well this season. They're high in the standings and winning those matches. You might be one of the less fortunate people whose team isn't doing so well. Whichever, practically every football team has past glories that can be honoured and remembered - and that's when you want that retro football shirt.

Whether it's honouring a great football player, or a great football victory, wearing a retro football shirt probably shows more love for your teams than wearing the current strip. After all, you know their history and are showing it off.

Many football clubs offer retro kits alongside the latest seasons’ kit. Hey, they're not going to miss a trick to make some extra money out of you. And while today's kit is plastered with sponsor names, older kits were just about the team with a much purer and honest design.

Retro football kits are also available from a whole range of licensed suppliers and with a quick search on the internet you're sure to find some bargains.

It's not only football supporters though that are wearing them. Some of the early designs are works of art in their own right. Many people are wearing retro football shirts just because they like the design and have no idea who the team might have been or when the design was actually used - and what's wrong with that.

Checking with a couple of retro football kit suppliers, I've come up with four of the most popular designs:

No list is complete without the Manchester City away kit from the 1969 Cup Final. Red with black stripes and trim, this is one of the classic shirts worn by fans and many non fans alike.

During the 1960's Manchester United had a great royal blue strip with matching trim.

And for the bright at heart, the gold and black trimmed shirt of Wolves.

There are literally thousands of different designs available going back to the 1800's. Whether a devout football enthusiast or just someone who likes to wear great designs, there's a retro football shirt for everyone.
