New Football Kits

Whether it is nostalgia that drives you to get a new football kit, to relieve the football games of old; simply following your favourite football player; or getting the latest seasons football kit; there's nothing like the joy of a new kit and wearing it for the first time.

And today, it's not just from your teams shop that you can buy your football kit- there are many licenced outlets, offline and online where you can buy today's and yesterday's football strips.

It doesn't stop there either. Along with getting your new football kit in your teams latest colours, and your favourite player’s number, you can even have your name replacing them. I don't know if it will make you play any better, but it certainly can't hurt your game!

One of the important things though when looking for a new football kit, is going to be the quality. While you'll find hundreds of online shops and auction sellers selling kits, it's really not worth buying cheap. After all, it's not as if your new football kit isn't going to get some harsh treatment one way or another - whether it's on the pitch playing hard, or off the pitch partying hard. You want your new football shirt to last, so don't think buying cheap is anything less than getting a poorly made, thin and probably licence infringing strip.

So what should you look for when buying a new football kitand not get ripped off. Here are my top tips to guarantee that your next football kit will last:

  1. Be careful on auction sites. Yes, those kits might seem like a great price, but remember the old adage, you get what you pay for. Always check the feedback of a seller. Check how they send out their orders and what happens if you don't receive them. If ordering from an overseas seller are their sizes the same as UK sizes?
  2. Sounds obvious, but know your size. I have friends who when they look in the mirror see someone a size smaller than they really are. Get the right size.
  3. Set you budget. Once you've decided to get a new football kit, it's easy to go overboard; after all it's the game you love. These days though, you have to think about the pennies. So, before you start looking, set yourself a maximum price that you can afford and stick to it! (Remember to check postage and packing charges on online stores - some load those up so their prices before adding p&p look cheap.
  4. Like any other online purchase, only ever put in your credit card details on a web page that has https at the start of the address. Anything else and that page is not secure, and the online shop doesn’t know the first thing about online safety - avoid!
  5. Is this new football kit for occasional use or are you going to be using it several times a week? Are you going to be sliding around on it, getting in the action? Or, is the only action it's going to see is the occasional bear spillage? If you're buying a football kit for heavy use, get the sturdiest you can afford made by a well known sportswear manufacturer.
  6. When do you play most, winter or summer? If you are an "I only play when it's not raining" type, get yourself a short sleeved shirt. If you're going to rough it out over the winter months, get yourself a new long sleeved football shirt.

So, go and get yourself that football kit and enjoy!
